Your teen’s care team has recommended an intensive outpatient program (IOP), and the hard part isn’t the decision. It’s the drive to Annandale three afternoons a week, on top of school, practices, and your own work hours. Portum’s hybrid IOP was built for that situation: your teen starts with an in-person assessment at our Annandale office, then joins program sessions online from home.
Hybrid IOP runs on the same Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday schedule as our regular IOP program, from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. It’s one of several outpatient options for teens ages 13–17, and you can compare it with all programs we offer before you call.
Hybrid care at Portum has two parts, and the order matters.
Before your teen’s first session, you and your teen meet with our clinical team at 1465 Route 31 South in Annandale. This visit is where we learn what’s going on, what your teen has already tried, and what your family needs from treatment. It’s also where we confirm that hybrid IOP is the right level of care.
Once your teen is enrolled, sessions happen online every Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. Your teen logs in from home after school, so there’s no afternoon commute and no missed class time.
If your teen’s care includes medication, our team may ask you to come in before a significant medication change. Having a clinician see your teen face to face for those decisions is part of keeping care safe, and we’ll let you know ahead of time when a visit is needed.
Some teens say more in a room than they do on a screen, and many parents have questions that are easier to ask across a table. The in-person assessment gives our clinicians a fuller picture of your teen and gives you a chance to meet the team that will be guiding their care.
It also protects the fit. If the assessment shows your teen needs more support than hybrid IOP offers, or would do better in a fully in-person program, we’ll tell you that directly and help you find the right next step.
Hybrid IOP fits teens who need the structure of an intensive outpatient program but can’t reliably get to Annandale three afternoons a week. Families usually choose it for one of these reasons:
Hybrid IOP isn’t the right starting point for every teen. If your teen needs a full day of support, our partial hospitalization program (PHP), also called partial care, runs five days a week. If you live close by and your teen does better with in-person structure, regular IOP meets on the same afternoons at our office. Teens finishing a higher level of care may be ready for our aftercare program instead. You don’t need to know the answer before you call; our admissions team will walk through the options with you.
Portum offers IOP three ways: in person at our Annandale office, fully online through virtual IOP, and in the hybrid format on this page. What sets hybrid IOP apart is its in-person anchors. The assessment happens at our office, and in-person visits may be scheduled around significant medication changes, while day-to-day sessions stay online. If you’re weighing hybrid against virtual IOP, our admissions team can explain how each one would work for your family and recommend the better fit.
Portum is out of network with most major insurance providers. Many plans include out-of-network benefits that can lower your cost, and the fastest way to find out what yours covers is to verify your insurance with our team. It takes about two minutes, it’s confidential, and there’s no commitment.
Getting started takes three steps:
Hybrid IOP is a scheduled outpatient program, not emergency care. If your teen is in immediate danger or thinking about suicide, call or text 988 to reach the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. For a medical emergency, call 911.
Yes, at least once. Every teen in hybrid IOP starts with an in-person assessment at our Annandale office. After that, sessions are online, though our team may ask for an in-person visit before a significant medication change.
Yes. Sessions run Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m., after the school day, and your teen joins from home.
Hybrid IOP is for teens ages 13–17. If your child is younger, give us a call. Portum also treats preteens ages 10–12, and we can talk through which program fits your child.
Both let your teen take part in sessions from home. Hybrid IOP adds in-person steps: the assessment happens at our Annandale office, and in-person visits may be needed for significant medication changes. Our admissions team can walk you through both options and help you choose.
It depends on your plan. Portum is out of network with most major insurance providers, and many plans include out-of-network benefits that may apply. Our admissions team can check your specific plan confidentially and at no cost.
A device with a camera, a reliable internet connection, and a private, quiet spot to join sessions. We’ll go over the setup with you before your teen’s first session.
